Pen Glossary continued
Feed
Feed is the unit, which delivers ink from the reservoir to the nib. It
sits underneath the nib, supporting it and holding the immediate ink supply.
Fountain Pens
Fountain pens are the most traditional of writing instruments and have
a timeless classic look. The fountain pens remain the only writing instrument
to offer the satisfaction and free flow of wet ink writing. The nib, which
is responsible for the unique feel of the writing of a fountain pen, is
available in various metals and finishes nib grades to suit individual
tastes and writing techniques.
Italic Nibs
Italic nibs are manufactured with a sharp, straight cut tip and finished
with a flat pellet. This gives a thick line in one direction and a thin
line at right angles to that direction as necessary for the italic style
of writing.
Nib
The nib is the point of the fountain pen, which applies the ink to the
paper and does the actual writing. Nib sizes allow you to select a point
that comfortably expresses your personal style of handwriting. While nibs
are available in extra fine, fine, medium, broad, broadest broad (bb),
etc., the most popular nib size remains the medium.
